About Us:
A Dough Ball Story
Who We Are
At Scarpello's, we believe food is more than just something you eat. It’s about tradition. It’s about family. And it’s about creating memories that last. Our story begins in the kitchen with my Nana, whose love for cooking and family was the heart of every meal. Growing up, I would always find her in the kitchen, from early mornings to late evenings, crafting everything from her famous pie crusts to cinnamon-sugar rolls made from leftover dough. These small, thoughtful moments weren’t just about food—they were about love, care, and the joy of sharing something made with your own hands. The kitchen was always the gathering place for our family. Nana and my mom would serve us, busy making plates and finally joining us at the table when the work was done. It wasn’t just about eating—it was about sharing stories, connecting, and building lasting memories around the food they made with love. This ritual of togetherness, especially with fresh focaccia, became a part of our family’s heritage. It’s that feeling of warmth and unity that we wanted to pass on with Scarpello's. But our story doesn’t just stop at our family’s kitchen—it extends to the journey of my grandparents, who made the courageous trip from Palermo, Sicily, to America. With little money and no knowledge of the language, they traveled across the world to give their family a better life. The strength and courage it took to leave everything behind and start anew in a foreign land is a legacy that runs through everything we do. The dough we make today is deeply tied to that past. It’s the same biga starter recipe my Nana used, passed down through generations. This slow-fermented starter gives the dough its signature depth of flavor, with a subtle tang that only time and care can bring. There’s a feeling in the air when I work with it—its aroma takes me back to those kitchen memories, to the sense of normalcy that comes from making something from scratch. Scarpello's is about making it easier for families today to create their own food memories. We’ve done the hard part so you can gather around the table and enjoy the experience of fresh, homemade dough without all the work. It’s our way of sharing the same love and tradition that our family has passed down, giving you the tools to bring your family together. Patience. That’s the lesson my grandparents taught me. It’s about taking time, following the process, and trusting that good things will come. This dough is a reflection of that wisdom—slow-fermented, perfectly risen, and made with love. When I think about my grandparents, I know they would be proud to see the name Scarpello live on. Not just as a name on a product, but as a reminder that tradition can evolve and stay relevant. That the things we hold dear—family, food, and heritage—can be passed down, remembered, and shared with future generations. -Rick Proud Grandson and founder/ceo of Scarpello's
